Terrorism
Bullet point: Kill 'em all. Quickly.
Terrorists are like cockroaches. They crop up everywhere, even if you keep a clean house. It doesn’t matter what you do. There’s going to be one or two around. The idea is to make sure that you can contain their population, kill them where you find them and always be vigilant.
I believe this is the approach we need to take terrorists, particularly the Taliban. If you’ve been watching the developments in Pakistan, Mousharif has lost his Prime Minister job because of his close association with the United States, in part because people in Pakistan said they would rather negotiate with the Taliban than fight them. The people of Pakistan thought that the cost was too high and that using a reasoned approach with the Taliban will result in fewer civilian casualties, less reliance on the United States, less military action. What the new Prime Minister has basically said is, "Geez, can’t we all just get along."
And now, Afghanistan's leaders are trying the same approach. They are trying to give amnesty to those who took up arms for Al-Qaeda, and welcoming the Taliban back into the government. And we're sending MORE troops over there. It just doesn't make sense to me. If the Afghani's can't at least keep the Taliban and Al-Qaeda out of their government, what are we doing still there?
Keeping in mind that these are fellow Muslims with the same Koran as the Taliban and the same basis for worship as the Taliban trying to negotiate with them. There is a known terrorist that was in jail that the Taliban had wanted released and so Pakistan released this cleric presumably to go negotiate a peace deal for the Taliban between the Taliban and Pakistan. Keep in mind that the mind set for that particular culture is to ally with your enemy, make them believe you are an ally and then betray them, which is exactly what this cleric did.
Pakistan had negotiated a deal that the Taliban could effectively, take over the Swat Valley along the border of Afghanistan in order to try to foster some peace and to cut down on the terrorists attacks. Within the first week of taking power, the Taliban and Al Qaeda had stoned a teenage girl to death for being seen out in public without a male escort. The next week they stoned a young couple to death for trying to elope to get married. They had launched a major offensive against Pakistan from the Swat Valley that drove to within 60 miles of Pakistan’s capital. They have instituted a suicide bombing campaign in Afghanistan against American troops. All this less than six months after trying to have this agreement with the Pakistani government.
The Pakistani government has finally asked the United States for military intervention and with American assistance has been able to push the Taliban back into the Swat Valley. Now that we are "back in action" over there, the casualty rates for our troops is skyrocketing. We are having to pay twice for the same land. It’s getting so bad in Afghanistan that the UK is starting to call for a withdrawal of their troops. What’s President Obama’s proposal to fix the situation? The same plan President Bush used to win the war in Iraq. The Surge.
This deal with the Taliban that Pakistan made has cost American and British lives in Afghanistan, has cost Pakistani lives, and set back our war on terrorism. All because whack job liberals and idiots think that you can negotiate with these cockroaches. When was the last time you ever said to a cockroach, "Listen, I’ll give you the pantry, just leave the kitchen alone." That’s what we’re doing every time we try to talk, negotiate, or use reason with these vermin. It’s not their nature to leave the kitchen alone. It’s their nature to keep trying to take over. It’s their nature to keep trying to poison everything they touch. It’s their nature to be infectious, and the only way to deal with a cockroach is get yourself a lot of roach motels, (ambushes) and call in the exterminators (direct military action). And most importantly, utilize and maintain democracy.
These people on the left that think you can talk to the Taliban. They also think our reputation in the world is being hurt by our actions against terrorists and terrorist states. They truly do not understand foreign policy. When I was in Vienna in the mid 80’s, I had gone to an opera at the Vienna opera house, which is called the Staats Oper. On the roof of a nearby building were five men of Middle Eastern descent that I later found out were of Iranian decent, dancing around holding an American flag and chanting. One by one they jumped off the building protesting America’s actions, and by their "martyrdom" telling us how bad we were hated. (Five less terrorists in my opinion) My dad, when he was stationed in Europe in the Army, told me that the world hated us then. He has stories of being spit on as he drove through towns. This was in both Germany and France. The fact is, if you are a large, powerful country with a lot of resources, people are going to hate you. It’s a lot like high school. If you’re the big jock and you’re successful and you’ve got some money and you work hard for what you have, people that don’t work hard or don’t have the resources or aren’t physically gifted to be an athlete are jealous and angry and will hate you for that reason.
I also find it interesting that the moment Obama took office, Iraq was no longer a quagmire. That suddenly, we’re pulling out on a timeline that the Bush administration had already established. And because George Bush did not want to telegraph what our intentions were to our enemy, it does not mean that the plan was not working. And essentially we‘re going to do the same plan over again in Afghanistan. The difference is going to be instead of a nice flat country where you can have satellites looking down, we’re going to do it in mountainous country. It’s difficult to operate in. So essentially I see Afghanistan potentially turning into another Vietnam if we do not let our Generals fight this war. So far, Obama has proven to have the mettle to replace Commanders that are ineffective and I’m happy for that. However, if we take the approach that we can talk to these vermin, that we can talk to the Taliban and other Islamic terrorists like they are reasonable and actual human beings, our policies will fail solely because they’re not rational nor are they human beings. They are merely cockroaches that need to be exterminated.
Update: 10-9-09 Holy Cow. Pres. Obama has said he supports the TALIBAN becoming part of the government of Afghanistan. Is that nuts or what? What is he thinking? I agree with the liberal commentators during the Bush Admin: It will be another Viet Nam. It will be Viet Nam all over again, because of narcissism from our President thinking he can charm these cockroaches into leaving the kitchen alone. I can't even believe it. And my boy's scheduled to go (according to rumor) in January. What a moron.
